LETTER: Commissioners should act to stop bottling plant

| June 14, 2016 8:31 AM

Do you think the water right you have on your well guarantees you will have the water you need to supply your home or farm?

Regrettably, your well may not reach the dwindling aquifer if a neighbor should put intense demands on it.

Your only right that remains is to drill your well deeper at your own expense. With that fact, all people who depend on their wells, and we all need water, should have a voice on any new demands on our aquifer. Anyone reading the local newspaper knows there is a request before the county to permit a water bottling company near Egan Slough. Aside from the drain on the aquifer, the dust raised on a gravel road from the trucks hauling the bottled water out will further degrade the air quality.

Our county commissioners can put a stop to this situation NOW, by putting a moratorium on any water-bottling plants in the Flathead. Please contact your representatives now and ask them to do their job to protect our county, and ultimately our state, as the people of Montana refuse to sell off our natural resources for the profit of multinational water companies.
