BASKETBALL: Four from Bigfork named all-state in Class B
The Bigfork basketball teams both went undefeated in District 7B, sweeping their way to the regular season and tournament titles.
So it’s no surprise that the Vikings and Valkyries raked in the honors when the Class B conference and state awards were announced.
Adam Jordt, Jonathan Landon, Lana Berg and Miranda Campbell were each chosen all-state in Class B, and four more of their Bigfork teammates earned all-conference commendations, giving the champs more honorees than any other district school.
Libby sophomore Shannon Reny joined Berg and Campbell in earning all-state honors on the girls side.
Jordt and Landon carried the Bigfork boys to a runner-up finish at the state tournament and a 24-2 overall record. The seniors each averaged double-figure points during the regular season, with Jordt at 13.5 per game and Landon 12.1. Landon was also the Vikings’ leading rebounder, collecting 6.3 per contest.
It is the first all-state commendation for both players, and the first time Jordt has even been named to an all-conference team. Landon was a first team-all conference pick as a junior.
Libby’s Jonny Cielak and Ryggs Johnston joined Jordt and Landon on the all-conference first team. Johnston, a freshman, was the only non-senior named to the first team and the only underclassman to be recognized.
Second team honorees included Bigfork’s George Gibson and Joseph Potkonjak, Libby’s Erik Lauer and Troy’s Sean Opland. It is the third time Opland has been named all-conference.
Berg and Campbell, two more Bigfork seniors, put together terrific years on the inside for the Valkyries. The two posts were Bigfork’s top two scorers and rebounders, with Berg averaging 14 points and seven rebounds and Campbell adding 13.5 points and 7.6 boards. Their classmate, Mattie McAnally, also made the all-conference first team, her third straight year on the first team.
Libby’s Reny and Troy sophomore Allie Coldwell were also named to the all-conference first team. Second team selections included Bigfork’s Katie Thomas, Libby’s Abby Enninga and Jayden Winslow, Eureka’s Amanda Peterson and Liz Pacella, and Troy’s Aurora Becquart.
