The Columbia Falls softball team went .500 at the Frenchtown tournament last Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Wildkats beat Florence 14-3, but lost to Hamilton 19-9. On Saturday, the Kats clobbered Dillon 13-3, but were edged by Anaconda 8-7.

Against Dillon, Peyton Kehr, Samantha Collins, and Kerry Lanners all had doubles. Katie Price went 3 for 4 in the lead-off spot.

Against Florence, Sydney Hovde hammered a couple of home runs in the win.

Last Tuesday, the Kats lost to AA Flathead 7-4 in a game where they had a 4-1 lead. Hovde had a solo home run in that game.

Hovde has about eight homers already this season.

Coach Dave Kehr said the team just has to get more consistent in its play. It’s hitting the ball well, but has defensive lapses at times.

“We’ve lost three or four games where we’ve out-hit the other team,” he said. “We can’t do that.”

The girls square off against Whitefish at home Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.

The Kats can’t overlook the Lady Bulldogs.

“We don’t want to take anyone lightly,” he said. He noted Whitefish is much improved over last year’s squad.

The Kats are now 8-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
