Bowman Lake Road opens; Park plows less than a mile from Logan Pass

Glacier National Park has opened the Bowman Lake Road and the Bowman Lake campground. RVs and truck and trailer combinations are not recommended at Bowman Lake due to the nature of the long, narrow and windy dirt road to the campground. Primitive, first-come-first-served camping is available at a cost of $10 per night. There are no potable water sources in the campground. Campers are advised to bring their own drinking water. Vault toilets are available. Bowman Lake also features a picnic area and several day hike opportunities.

Park plows are continuing to make progress on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, as weather has been sunny and in the 70s for the past several days. Park plows are currently pioneering near Rim Rocks, which is less than a mile from Logan Pass.

The hiker-biker closure when crews are working, however, has been brought down to Packer’s Roost.

On the east side, plows have started back up on the Sun Road and are near the No Stump portion of the road.

On the east side, hiker-biker access is to Jackson Glacier Overlook while crews are working. When crews aren’t working, generally after 4;30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, there are no hiker-biker restrictions, but folks should be aware of avalanche danger and avoid lingering in avalanche chutes.
