HELENA — This spring’s Class A-C state track and field meet will move from Missoula to Laurel because of delays in construction of the Missoula facilities, the MHSA Executive Board decided on Tuesday at the conclusion of the annual meetings.

“Current and predicted weather conditions make it impossible to determine the exact date of completion of the new track surface, and because of the size and scope of a state meet the Board deemed it necessary to make an immediate determination,” the MHSA said in a press release. The governing body worked with Missoula County Public Schools to make the determination.

In another move at the meetings, the Class A boys and girls basketball tournaments will be combined into one weekend beginning in the 2018-19 season, moving away from the current format split between two weeks.

The first combined Class A basketball tournament will be held at Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls.

The 2018 Class AA state tennis meet to be held in Kalispell has shifted dates to May 17-18 at Flathead Valley Community College.

Some future sites for state tournaments were decided as well, with Kalispell set to host the Class AA-B state track meet in 2019 and the Class AA speech meet in 2019. Polson will host state A softball in 2019.
