It is opening weekend for “On Golden Pond,” the spring production of the Whitefish Theatre Co. Ernest Thompson’s classic drama runs at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish, April 14-15 and 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 16 at 4 p.m. A sneak preview performance will be held April 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Full of heart and hope, “On Golden Pond” is the touching story of lovable curmudgeon Norman Thayer and his spirited wife, Ethel. Upon return to their summer lake home in Maine, their vacation is interrupted with the unexpected arrival of their estranged daughter, her uptight fiancé and his rebellious teenage son. Over the course of the summer, an unlikely friendship develops between Norman and the boy, bringing together generations and the lessons they learn from each other. This theater classic is a celebration of life, love and family, and a show that Variety calls “a rare and memorable theatrical experience.”

“On Golden Pond” is directed by David Ackroyd, who acted in Broadway productions including “Children of a Lesser God” and Philip Roth’s “Unlikely Heroes.”

Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and $10 for students, with reserved seating. They can be purchased at the O’Shaughnessy Center box office, One Central Ave., Whitefish, or by calling 406-862-5371.
