Kalispell to host student musicians

Flathead and Glacier high schools will host student musicians from nine schools around the region at the 2017 District 1 Music Festival this week.

The public is invited to attend the band, choir and orchestra performances scheduled today through Saturday. There is no cost to attend.

Specialists will judge each performance on a 1 to 5 scale. Solos and ensembles with qualifying scores go on to attend the State Solo and Ensemble Festival in May.

Today, piano performances will be held at First Presbyterian Church beginning at 8 a.m. with the final performance starting at 3:45 p.m. At Flathead, evening instrumental and vocal performances are set to begin at 4 p.m. with the final band and choir going on stage at 8 p.m.

On Friday, Flathead will host instrumental and vocal performances that begin at 8 a.m. with final performances set to begin at 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. respectively. Evening performances will be held at Glacier. Instrumental and vocal performances will start at 7 p.m. with final performances set to begin at 8:45 p.m.

On Saturday instrumental and vocal performances begin at 8 a.m. and go through roughly 5:30 p.m.
