Columbia Falls mulls snow removal options

| April 25, 2017 4:46 PM

Spring is in the air, but the city of Columbia Falls will turn its attention to snow removal at a public hearing on May 1.

The Montana Department of Transportation has proposed the use of snow berms in the middle of the roadway instead of placing snow on adjoining sidewalks, which has made sidewalks impassable during the winter months.

As an alternative, the Columbia Falls City Council has discussed a special fee for adjoining property owners that would provide funding to hire a contractor to clear the sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.

The council is encouraging public comment on the alternatives both prior to and during the public hearing planned at 7 p.m. Monday, May 1, in the council chambers, 130 Sixth St. W. in Columbia Falls.

Written comments may be sent to the City Clerk, 130 Sixth St. W., Room A, Columbia Falls, Montana 59912 prior to the hearing.
