Wet weather washes out softball, track

Rain has washed out a host of events this spring in the Flathead Valley and will wipe out a few more today.

With nearly two inches of precipitation falling this month and more than eight inches this year the ground at area athletic fields is saturated. Even more wet weather is predicted over the next few days, prompting Glacier and Flathead each to call off a softball doubleheader today. The teams were scheduled to play Missoula Big Sky and Sentinel but will look to reschedule.

Glacier has also called off a track meet scheduled today that would have hosted Class B schools from the area, including Bigfork, Eureka, Libby and Ronan. Wolfpack activities director Mark Dennehy said the move to call off the meet was made with not only rain in mind, but also cold temperatures with predicted highs of only 48 degrees and possible lows in the 30s with wind.

Flathead’s track meet against Missoula Hellgate and Sentinel for today is still scheduled to go on, though that could change in the morning.

The same goes for a tennis dual between Flathead and Columbia Falls at Flathead Valley Community College, which has seen its share of events rained out this spring.

The softball doubleheader between Whitefish and Columbia Falls is also tentatively scheduled to play, though Columbia Falls activities director Troy Bowman said that call would be made in the morning.
