Flathead, Glacier swept in Capital City softball
HELENA — Flathead had trouble in the early innings against Helena Capital and Helena High, falling in both ends of a Western AA softball doubleheader on Saturday.
The Bravettes scored first against Capital, notching a run in the top of the first, but quickly gave up two runs in the home half of the inning. Capital scored twice more in the third and five runs in the fifth to run away with the final score in a 9-2 win.
Flathead gave up four runs in the first inning of a 4-1 loss to Helena High in the second game.
Jayden Russell and Kaileigh Denna both had three hits in the series.

HELENA — Glacier had trouble finding hits in a pair of losses to the Helena schools.
The Wolfpack mustered just three hits in a 8-1 loss to Helena to start the day, pushing across its lone run in the sixth inning after falling behind 8-0.
The story was the same in a much better defensive second game from the Wolfpack, holding Capital to one run, but only putting together four hits in the 1-0 loss.
Addie Labrum was the only batter to have hits in both games, going 1 for 3 in each game as a leadoff hitter.

FRENCHTOWN — Polson finished up tournament play with 8-4 and 5-4 wins over Butte Central and Florence, respectively.
Polson went 3-0 in the two-day event.
“Three very good teams (we played),” Polson coach Larry Smith said. “I thought it was good weekend. We made some real nice plays on defense, our bats came alive when we needed to and we outhit everybody.”
Polson handed Hamilton its first loss of the season on Friday, 4-3.
Polson (9-5 overall) had 21 hits against Butte Central with six players — Kaelyn Smith, Laurel Bitterman, Hannah Fryberger, Haley Fyant, Ashley Benson and Camas Renault — with three hits each. Fyant and Benson both had three RBIs.
Polson did not have an error in that outing.
The Pirates rallied for a dramatic win over Florence.
Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Fryberger led the inning off with a single to center. Fyant flew out to center and Benson grounded out.
Renault walked, Kaylanna Desjarlais drove in Fryberger with a single to center.
Quinn Motichka then singled followed by a Breyland McColl bloop single to shallow left, which scored Jerrica McCrea from third to win it. McCrea was a courtesy runner for Renault.
Polson had 13 hits in that contest. Motichka was 3-4 while Smith, Fryberger and Benson all were 2 for 4.

FRENCHTOWN — Columbia Falls handed Hamilton its second loss in as many days, pounding the Broncs, who were unbeaten entering the weekend.
The Wildkats scored three runs in the top of the first inning and six in the third before turning on the gas for eight runs in the final three innings.
Sydney Hovde was 4 for 4 and a triple short of the cycle with four RBIs in the win. KJ Schweikert, who picked up the win in the circle, was 2 for 4 from the plate with a home run and three RBIs.

FRENCHTOWN — Libby didn’t have quite enough in the tank to top a scoring outburst from Florence, losing a Western B conference game.
The Loggers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but gave up three runs over the next two frames to fall behind for good. Libby rallied for a run in the sixth, but couldn’t find anything in the seventh to drop its first league game of the year.
Jayden Winslow was 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and Madisen Monigold 1 for 3 with a double in the only hits for the Loggers.
