Hobbs, McDaniel lead Polson boys in golf opener

BUTTE — Matt Hobbs of Polson opened the Class A high school golf season by winning a scorecard playoff with three other golfers on Monday at the Butte Central Invitational.

Hobbs, teammate Carson McDaniel, Tristan Hanson of Hamilton and Zel Frost of Stevensville all shot 6-under par for 76 scores.

Hanson finished second after the playoff with McDaniel third and Frost fourth.

Hamilton’s Bryce Reed and Winston Opplet of Park tied for fifth with 77s.

Polson’s Trey Kelley shot 80 to tie for eighth.

Hamilton, with a 324 total, edged Polson for the team title by a single stroke.

The Bozeman JV used four girls in the top 10 to claim the team title.

Medalist honors went to Tricia Joyce of Butte Central with an 80.

Courtney Ockler of Frenchtown was second and seven shots back.

Esme Yarbrough of Polson placed eighth with a 98.

Only four girls teams posted scores.

Polson will compete in the Whitefish Invitational on Wednesday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
