Wynona Doreen 'Nonie' Chapman Mathison, 89

Wynona Doreen “Nonie” Chapman Mathison, 89, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.

She was born into a loving home as the only child of Lynn Theodore Chapman and Ester Mae Holcomb on March 2, 1928, in Columbia Falls. Nonie grew up on the family property 10 miles north of Polebridge, and her stepfather Ralph Day donated property to build a one-room school house known as the Old Ford School. Nonie attended this school starting in the first grade in 1934 through eighth grade in 1942.

She met John Henry Mathison in the North Fork after he returned from serving in World War II in the summer of 1946. Following a lengthy courtship of two weeks, they eloped and were married on Aug. 10, 1946, in Kalispell. They were the loving parents of six children, Ronnie Jay Mathison, Johnny Day Mathison (Marlene), Connie Mae Bone (Frank), Bonnie Kay Altig (Eugene), Lonnie Gay Bras (Cy), and Donnie Ray Mathison (Christine); as well as 29 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Nonie in death were her husband John Henry Mathison, son Ronnie Jay Mathison, daughter Connie May Mathison Bone, grandchild Maria Del Carmen Arden Mathison, and two great- grandchildren Caleb Luccas Mathison and Keagan Trust Etchison.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1380 Whitefish Stage Road with Bishop Todd Cahoon conducting. Viewing and visitation will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow services at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
