Kenneth Weed, 82
In loving memory of Kenneth Weed, who “went to rest” on Dec. 11, 2017.
Kenneth was known to most as Ken. He was born on Nov. 10, 1935, on the west side of Kalispell at a midwife house. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Ken loved Montana and all it had to offer. Ken loved to hunt. He got his first deer at the age of 9. Ken reloaded most of his ammunition. Ken’s love for fishing would take him to Flathead Lake to troll for “macs” and salmon. When it was legal, he would go the Flathead River plugging for bull trout. Ken also went on several fishing tournaments with his son.
Ken loved the outdoors and would take all the kids, nieces and nephews to go whitewater rafting.
Ken loved to ski both water and snow. He skied from Little Frenchies to Big Mountain. Ken took the whole family out to the Jone’s cabin on Lake Blaine where he taught all the kids to water ski on the skis and surfboards which he made by hand.
Ken loved working with his hands: woodworking, building houses and he was known as the fixer upper. Ken built his own home on the farm he purchased between Kalispell and Whitefish. He fixed all of his own equipment.
Ken had fun cleaning his own property. He would build a brush fire and sit around it as if he were camping.
Ken was the type of person who cared deeply about his family and friends. He kept track of everyone no matter where they were to make sure everyone was OK. He went to nursing homes to visit with the residents.
Ken was in the National Guard for 12 years and was a lifetime member of the Elks.
After graduating from Flathead High in 1953, he went to college at the University of Montana in Missoula for a year. Ken returned to Kalispell and started working at Plum Creek Lumber where he retired after 44 years.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Pat, of 55 years, whom he married on Feb. 11, 1963. Ken is survived by his son Mark Weed, and wife Michelle, and their son Colter of Kalispell. Mark has two daughters, Stephanie and her children, daughter Addison and son Brody of Kalispell, and Brittani from Portland and Mark’s son Steven of Kalispell. Ken is also survived by his daughter Cindy Weed, her son Calen and daughter Amelia of Kalispell.
Ken is survived by his daughters Jackie Shumacher and husband Rod of Canada, and Tawnya Hugo and daughter Jennifer of Washington. Ken is survived by his sister-in-law Lynn Weed who was married to Earl E. Weed; also lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Earl S. and Evelyn (Honey) Weed, his sister Karen O’Hare, his brother Earl E. Weed, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home, followed by interment at Glacier Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel Kalispell.
