Man being arrested attempts to elude police
When a Flathead County deputy told Larry Jay Nelson he was under arrest and ordered him to step out of his vehicle, Nelson allegedly initiated car pursuit instead.
The 33-year-old man reportedly failed to stop at stop signs, forced a vehicle off the pavement, drove through a yard and over a fence in a residential neighborhood, during the pursuit on Tuesday.
The pursuit began at about 10 p.m. on Anderson Lane in Flathead County and ended near the Kalispell Regional Medical Center, according to the police report.
Officers reportedly had to use a stop maneuver with their vehicles twice before they were able to disable Nelson’s vehicle.
Nelson allegedly continued to disregard police officers’ commands after his vehicle was stopped. Officers stated they had to break Nelson’s window in order to extract him from the vehicle and put him under arrest.
According to law enforcement officials, a pat search revealed a jewel bag in Nelson’s pocket that contained a white powdery residue.
Nelson is facing a felony criminal endangerment charge and a misdemeanor charge for eluding a police officer. He is being held at the Flathead County Detention Center.
An arraignment is set for Jan. 18, 2018.
