Polson checked in second and Columbia Falls was sixth among teams in the season’s first installment of the Class A wrestling coaches poll.

Havre, which captured the team state championship last season by a large margin, topped the inaugural ranking.

Polson’s Parker Adler (152 pounds) and Columbia Falls’ Ben Windauer (170) and Taylor Gladhue (285) were all ranked first in their respective weight classes to lead 16 area individuals who appeared in the rankings.

Polson was best represented of any area team with eight wrestlers in the rankings. Columbia Falls placed six in the poll and Libby added two.

The Pirates’ selections were concentrated in the lower and middle weights, while Columbia Falls was better represented in the heavier weights.

Maysyn Cowell (ranked third at 103), R.J. Pierre (fourth at 113), Kederick Baker (fifth at 120) and Mateo Quinones (second at 126) all were in the poll, giving Polson a ranked wrestler in each of the four lowest weight classes.

Adler, Bridger Wenzel (fourth at 138), Cameron Brown (second at 145) and Hunter Fritsch (second at 170) rounded out the Pirates’ selections.

Gladhue edged teammate Kyler Koski for the top spot in the heavyweight division, giving Columbia Falls the top two wrestlers in Class A at that weight.

Austin Nelson (third at 120), Colten McPhee (fourth at 182) and Jakob Freeman (sixth at 205) joined Windauer and the two heavyweight wrestlers in the poll.

Dylan Yeadon (sixth at 120) and Laine Young (sixth at 152) represented Libby.
