COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Flathead, led by individual winner Tucker Nadeau at 182 pounds, placed second in the team standings at the 47th annual Tri-State Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Post Falls, Idaho, with a 220 score, captured the team title. Flathead, 173.5, was next and Moses Lake, Washington, 156, wound up third.

Havre, 151, was a strong fourth.

Polson, 89, finished in a tie for 29th place. Libby, 20, was 52nd.

Post Falls was second at this event last year after winning it in 2014 and 2015.

Nadeau decisioned Masin Sabin of White River 8-3 in the championship session.

He was Flathead’s lone finalist.

“Tucker Nadeau is just wrestling at a different level right now,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.

“He is just a wrestling fanatic. Tucker is 17-0 on the year.”

Flathead had seven individuals place in the two-day event. Brendan Barnes (98) and Alex Paull (285) were both third, Tanner Russell (145), Payton Hume (170) and Mile Lee (285) all finished fifth while Bryce Schaffer (113) was eight.

“I’m just so excited for this team,” Thompson said.

“To place second at Tri-State with 72 teams is such an honor. These boys came to compete and they wanted to prove how tough Flathead wrestling is this year. This team put Flathead wrestling back on the map not just for Montana, but for the region.

“To place in Tri-State you have to not only be tough, but have endurance and grit,” Thompson continued.

“To be in a 64-man bracket and wrestle for 16 hours on Friday and 12 hours today, that is just a different level of toughness. It’s relentless. The positive energy this team has right now is just so contagious. Success is building success for Brave Brawler wrestling.”
