Dennis Ray Hulsing, 72, of Dickenson, North Dakota, passed away Aug. 24, 2017, in Tampa, Florida, where he was being treated for pancreatic cancer.

Dennis was born April 15, 1945, in Bremerton, Washington, the son of Dean and Helen Hulsing. He spent a happy childhood in the Swan River community near Bigfork. He graduated from Polson High School in 1963. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1970.

Dennis married Roene Lein on July 31, 1966, and celebrated 51 years of marriage. They moved to Dickenson in 1974. Dennis started an architecture firm and later expanded into construction. Many public buildings in Dickenson were designed by his firm. Always the champion of the underdog, he and his Native American partner worked in collaboration with many of the tribes in the Western half of the U.S. to design projects which benefitted native people.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Roene, daughters Kerry Hulsing of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Wendy Hulsing of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lori Hulsing of Minneapolis, sons-in-law Sanjaya Gupta and T.J. Wildenborg; seven grandchildren; brother, Russell Hulsing, of Buffalo, New York; and mother-in-law, Helma Lein of Dickenson.
