Bigfork upends C-Falls

BIGFORK — Bigfork held Columbia Falls to 13 points in the first half, including just two in the first quarter, to set itself on course for a comfortable, 52-37 win at Bigfork High School on Thursday night.

Beau Santisteven threw in 17 points for the Vikings, who led 20-13 at halftime before slowly pulling away in the second half.

Columbia Falls’ Matthew Morrison was the only other double-digit scorer in the defensive struggle.

It was the final game before the holiday break for Bigfork. Columbia Falls hosts Ronan at 7:15 p.m. today.

WHITEFISH — Libby outscored Whitefish 59-50 in the fourth quarter to overcome a six-point deficit and down the Bulldogs in a Northwest A matchup.

Ryggs Johnston led the charge for Libby with 27 points, and Logan Christianson chipped in 10.

Lee Walburn paced Whitefish with 17 points. Ryan Kemm had 11.

The Bulldogs trailed by three at halftime but outscored Libby 18-9 in the third quarter to take the lead before allowing it to slip away in the back-and-forth contest.

POLSON — Frenchtown used a big second quarter and 20 points from Zack Baker to beat host Polson.

Shade Main scored 15 points and Connor Lanier added 11 for the Pirates, who weren’t able to overcome being outscored 18-5 in the second period.

Ethan Pyron (14 points) and Cade Baker (10) also scored in double figures for Frenchtown.

TROY — Thompson Falls scored 20 or more points in each of the first three quarters to pull away from Troy.

Nate Thibeault scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Blue Hawks. Danny Hoisington and Payton Frields added 16 apiece, while Grant Lundberg chipped in 12.

Alex Freund paced Troy, which 42-22 at halftime, with 10 points.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Ryley Kehr scored 20 points and three other Wildkats tallied double figures to give Columbia Falls a win over Bigfork in a local non-conference matchup at Columbia Falls High School.

Abby Ellison poured in a game-high 17, Jaime Berg chipped in 13 and Ellie Berreth added 11 for Bigfork, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a balanced offensive effort by the Wildkats.

Columbia Falls jumped out to an early 18-10 lead after the first quarter, but Bigfork rebounded to outscore the home team 16-6 in the second and take a lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half followed much the same pattern, as Columbia Falls dominated the third quarter and had to withstand a furious rally by the Valkyries to hold on for the win.

The game concluded Bigfork’s pre-holiday schedule. Columbia Falls travels to Ronan at 7:15 p.m. today for its final game before the break.

FRENCHTOWN — Frenchtown limited Polson to nine points in the first half to create separation in a low-scoring affair the Broncs went on to win.

Jaycee Frydelund, who had 11 points, was the only Pirate to score more than four points, as Polson failed to crack double figures as a team in any quarter.

Meg Delaney scored a game-high 19 points to pace Frenchtown.

WHITEFISH — Libby limited Whitefish to eight or fewer points in every quarter of a Northwest A conference win.

The Loggers led 13-10 at halftime before turning the game into a rout by outscoring the Bulldogs 15-8 and 18-5 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

TROY — Allie Coldwell scored a season-high 31 points and Troy never trailed in a double-digit victory over Thompson Falls at Troy High School.

“(Coldwell) was just kind of falling with her shots,” Troy head coach Justin Young said. “We ran our offense through her.”

Troy jumped out to a 12-0 lead to begin the game and never trailed.

Aurora Becquart and Grace Dolan chipped in six points apiece for the Trojans, who led 26-12 at halftime.
