Glacier's Hill wins 3,200 at Simplot Games

POCATELLO, Idaho — Glacier junior Annie Hill used a dramatic final kick to pass a pair of runners on the hometretch, winning the 3,200-meter run at the Simplot Games on Saturday at Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University.

Hill sprinted by Bozeman’s Camilla Noe and Utah eighth-grader Grace Ping in the final turn, edging the two for the victory in 10 minutes, 44.21 seconds.

Noe finished second in 10:44.51 and Ping third in 10:44.57.

“I’ve been focusing not on results, but on what I can do in the moment,” Hill said. “It’s about making every second count and making the most of it.”

Hill finished third in the 1,600 at Simplot as a freshman in 2015.

She will compete in the 3,200 and 5,000 meters at the Indoor Track and Field Nationals in New York later this season.

Outside of taking the top two places in the girls 3,200, other Montana athletes shined on the final day of competition.

Billings Senior senior Dawson LaRance won the boys 800 in 1:54.60 and Bozeman senior Jacob Grinwis finished third.

Baker senior Cleet Wrzesinski placed second in the boys 60-meter dash and Sidney junior Garrison Hughes finished second in pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 9 inches.

Bozeman senior Chase Equall was fourth in the boys 3,200 and Billings’ Blade Miller finished sixth in boys shot put.

Bozeman sophomore Delaney Bahn cleared 5-7 in the high jump to claim third and Bozeman senior Camille Landon finished fifth, clearing 5-5.

Billings’ Katrina Terry finished fifth in pole vault and the Bozeman Distance Project team came in sixth in the girls 3,200 relay.

Missoula’s Mountain West Youth Track Club was sixth in the girls 1,600 relay.

The Simplot Games is one of the most prestigious indoor track meets in the Western U.S., hosting more than 2,200 athletes from three countries.
