Opal Theresia Lynch, 94

Opal Theresia Lynch passed away on Feb. 23, 2017, at her home in Madison, Ohio, after her battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Waubay, South Dakota, to Julius and Marie Schmig on Dec. 7, 1922.

She attended school in Waubay. At age 17 she moved to Helena where her Aunt Sophie Cotton lived.

She worked for F.W. Woolworth while attending night school for tele-typing. Upon completion she worked for Mountain States Bell Company for 20 years. She was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and involved in many church activities including teaching Sunday school.

On June 6, 1959, she married Jesse T. Lynch in Helena.

May 1964 they moved to Hungry Horse.

She was a member of the Hungry Horse Home Demonstration Group through the county extension from 1965 till the early ‘70s. She was also a member of the Hungry Horse Community Club. She enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband and family. She also enjoyed the Christian Women’s Group. She participated in many of the local school activities.

Opal moved to Madison, Ohio, to live with her daughter Rita and husband Dennis after the passing of her husband Jesse.

Opal is survived by daughter Jane Packer and husband Bill of Edgewood, New Mexico; Rita Miller and husband Dennis of Madison, Ohio; granddaughter Tess Gelderloos and husband Paul of Everett, Washington; granddaughter Erika Lunar and husband Kevin, great-grandsons Aidan and Karson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; granddaughter Jessica Slater of Columbus, Ohio, brother Raymond Schmig and wife Mary of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband Jesse; parents Julius and Marie Schmig; five brothers, Harry, Harold, Orval, Floyd and Earl; four sisters Ruth, Violet, Lorraine, Alice and two infant babies.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer in Kalispell.
