FVCC hosting Women's Choral Festival, Feb. 6-7
Superlative high school students from throughout Northwest Montana will come together Feb. 6-7 for the biennial Women’s Choral Festival.
The event is put on by Flathead Valley Community College and gives female singers a chance to work with an accomplished guest conductor and perform in a large concert hall — the Flathead High School auditorium. The two-day festival concludes Feb. 7 with a free concert at Flathead at 6 p.m.
Around 140 students from seven high schools — Glacier, Polson, Shelby, Eureka, Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Ronan — are scheduled to attend. The students will spend two days rehearsing under the direction of Kristina Ploeger, the associate director of choral activities at Eastern Washington University and the artistic director for the Spokane Area Young Choirs. Ploeger holds degrees from Edmonds Community College, Eastern Washington and Central Washington University, and is currently pursing a doctoral degree at the University of Kentucky. She has directed honors groups and all-state choirs in Washington, Oregon and Kentucky.
In addition to the festival concert, the public is invited to a free performance by FVCC faculty members on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the college’s Arts and Technology building.
