Polson boys pile on Frenchtown

POLSON — The Polson boys took over first place in the Northwest A conference with an emphatic 74-35 victory over Frenchtown on Friday night at Linderman Gym.

After falling in double overtime to the Broncs on the road, Polson got off to a blistering pace and never trailed in the rout.

The Pirates (8-5 overall, 3-1 Northwest A) made their first five shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, to take a 13-0 lead, eventually rolling to a 28-10 first quarter advantage.

Polson led 45-20 at half and continued to pile on the lead in the second half to avenge its only loss in conference.

Matthew Rensvold had a game-high 25 points to lead the Pirates, who saw five players hit double-digit scoring in the game. Jeremiah Norh Piegan added 16 points, Tanner Wilson 12, Jayden Bautista 11 and Connor Lanier 10.

Cade Baker led Frenchtown (6-6, 3-1) with 10 points.

LIBBY — The Libby boys scored more points in the first quarter than they allowed in the game, routing Lincoln County neighbor Troy in a District 7B matchup.

The Loggers (7-6 overall, 4-2 7B) took a 23-6 advantage in the first quarter and rode a 34-11 lead into half. Libby held Troy to just 10 points in the second half, all in the third quarter.

Ryggs Johnston had a game-high 14 points for the Loggers. Stephen Williams added 11 points and Ryan Nagle had 10 points.

Dillon Savage had eight points to lead Troy (2-8, 0-5).

Troy 45, Libby 40

LIBBY — Troy rallied from a first-quarter deficit to hold off Libby and pick up a big 7B conference win.

Troy scored 17 points in the second quarter to carry a 23-21 lead into halftime and outscored Libby 11-8 in the third quarter to build a five-point lead heading into the final eight minutes, holding on for the win.

The Trojans (7-3 overall, 3-2 7B) were led by 12 points from Allie Brown and 10 points from Alyssa Lewis.

Jayden Winslow and Shannon Reny each had 17 points for Libby (7-5, 4-2), which now falls back into a tie for first place with Bigfork at the crowded top of the conference.

FRENCHTOWN — Frenchtown never faltered in a rout of Northwest A foe Polson.

The Broncs (10-2 overall, 2-2 Northwest A) took a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and a 38-8 lead into half, never relenting in the second half to win by 40 points.

Allison Hochhalter had a game-high 12 points for Frenchtown and Alivia Williams chipped in 10 points.

Kaelyn Smith led Polson (2-11, 1-3) with seven points.
