Libby Loggers take 2 from Cranbrook; split with Bucs
Libby had its four-game winning streak halted on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game of a Class A American Legion baseball doubleheader 4-2 at the Bitterroot Bucs.
The Loggers regrouped to take the second contest 8-4.
On Friday evening, Libby swept the visiting Cranbrook Bandits in nonconference doubleheader play. The Loggers won the first game 15-11 and followed with a 4-2 triumph.
Libby jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the opener before holding off Cranbrook in the late going. Jesse Dunham drove in four runs for the Loggers and Braydan Thom finished with three RBIs.
Brady Bateman led the hit parade, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Dunham doubled.
Libby tallied two runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-all tie for the victory in the second contest with the Bandits.
Tim Carvey pitched seven innings for Libby. He checked Cranbrook on three hits, struck out three batters, but walked eight.
Dunham, Bateman and Shayne Walker had one RBI apiece for the Loggers, who were limited to five singles.
Against Bitterroot, Libby tied it up at 2-all with two runs in the sixth inning of the opener. The Bucs, however, followed with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to prevail.
Libby used three-run innings in the second and seventh to win the finale.
Seth Bateman, 3 for 4, drove in two runs and Carvey, 2 for 3, also had two RBIs in the win over the Bucs
Walker homered in that game.
Dunham pitched 6 2/3 innings. He gave up six hits, walked four and struck out nine to earn the win.
Seth Bateman had two of Libby’s four hits in the opener versus Bitterroot.
