A former employee of Whitefish Parks and Recreation denied stealing more than $1,500 from the city by charging personal purchases to city financial accounts.

Kalispell resident Jason Loveless, 40, pleaded not guilty to felony theft in Flathead District Court on June 1.

According to court records, Whitefish Police first responded to a report made by the director of the parks and recreation department, who suspected Loveless was abusing the city account.

During an interview with law enforcement, Loveless allegedly admitted to buying several tools and two sets of tires for his personal vehicle, charging more than $1,500 to the city’s account in October 2016.

A jury trial is set for Nov. 6. If convicted, Loveless could face up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, plus restitution.
