Thank you to all of the schools who participated in the Annual MCTM NW Regional Math Contest at Flathead Valley Community College. From 19 distinct schools in NW Montana, 423 “mathletes” competed in the math contest. I am proud to be a part of this marvelous competition! Congratulations to all of the participants who received awards in both individual and team tests. Please take a look at the top results published in the Daily Inter Lake.

I want to also thank my coordinators who helped prepare and run this contest: Don Hickethier and Laura VanDeKop of FVCC, and Brad Holloway and Janet Espeseth of Glacier High School. Alongside them were 40 plus volunteers from the schools, FVCC professors and FVCC ambassadors. A huge thanks to all of you!

Special thanks to our wonderful donors, who in total, provided over $2,500 of door prizes! Thank you Flathead Valley Community College, Chick-fil-A, Norm’s News, McDonald’s, Sweet Peaks, Pin and Cue Bowling, Bonelli’s Bistro, Mackenzie River Pizza, and City Brew!

Best of luck to our Regional Scholarship winners, Alex Naglich (Flathead High School) and Mirielle Kruger (Whitefish High School), who will receive a $200 scholarship from the Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Also, their final scores put them in the running for an additional $500 state scholarship.

I look forward to next year’s contest! If you would like to participate in future contests, but did not attend this year, please contact me at musickp@sd5.k12.mt.us. Additionally, if any businesses would like to donate to our non-profit organization contest, please feel free to let me know.
