FVCC alumni artwork on display at Hockaday

The Hockaday Museum of Art will showcase artwork by Flathead Valley Community College alumni artists as part of the college’s 50th anniversary commemoration, beginning with an opening reception Thursday, May 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum.

The “FVCC 50th Anniversary Alumni Art Show” will continue at the Hockaday through June 3. While on exhibit, artwork will be available for bidding in a silent auction. The alumni artwork will then return to FVCC for a special silent and live auction event June 9. The “Big Night Art Auction” will benefit student scholarships for the Semester in Venice program and art studies.

Since 1967, FVCC has played a key role in developing local artists and enriching culture for the communities of Northwest Montana and beyond. From the college’s humble beginnings in downtown Kalispell, faculty have nurtured students, young and old, in the pursuit of artistic endeavors.

“I am proud to be a part of this college,” FVCC Art Department Chair David Regan said. “So many people got their start in their art professions here. It is a pleasure to see them come back and celebrate the 50th. I am so grateful to those artists who have donated their wonderful artwork for this event.”

Admission to the opening reception at the Hockaday is by donation. Refreshments will be served.

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in the cultural district of downtown Kalispell at 302 Second Ave. E. It is housed in a 1904 Carnegie Library building that appears on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is a private nonprofit organization, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The mission of the Hockaday is to enrich the cultural life of the community and region, and preserve the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park.
