Emma Shew was brilliant in the circle, Anna Schrade had a powerhouse day at the plate and the Glacier defense turned in a perfect game — no errors — to whip Missoula Hellgate 17-3 in Western AA softball action at Glacier High School on Thursday afternoon.

“I just think we needed it be nice and warm outside for us to get it going,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said of the first sunny, 70-plus degree day of the spring season.

Glacier scored in every inning, pushing nine runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth for the game-shorted victory on the 10-run rule.

Glacier beat Hellgate earlier in the season 13-7.

“Emma Shew threw a great game from the circle today,” Fors said.

“Hellgate has some really strong hitters at the top their lineup and she did a great job keeping them off balance, throwing pitches and not getting herself in trouble,”

Shew allowed five singles, fanned two and walked four.

Glacier outhit Hellgate 12-5. Schrade, from her lead-off spot, went 3 for 4.

Addie Labrum, 1 for 2, and Eric McHugh, 2 for 3, both had three RBIs for the Wolfpack.

Labrum also had the lone extra base hit — a double.

Kali Gulick, 2 for 3, drove in four runs.

Glacier (4-11 overall, 3-8 Western AA) hosts Columbia Falls on Monday at 5 p.m. in nonconference play.
