Whitefish continues to prevail in those tight matches and that led to another dual victory for the girls tennis team on Thursday versus rival Columbia Falls at the Flathead Valley Community College Courts.

Hannah Madsen rallied for a win at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-0, 7-5, Claire Carloss, at No. 4 singles, won 6-4, 6-3, and Cailyn Ross and Paige Sproul pulled through with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 1 doubles.

The final score — Whitefish 6, Columbia Falls 1.

The Whitefish girls are now 11-2 on the season.

“That’s kind of surprising,” Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said of his team’s dual mark.

“We didn’t think we would have a very good dual team, but we’ve won a lot of close matches and tie-breakers.”

Dryden said the Madsen versus Molly Schmit rivalry is a friendly, but very competitive one.

“Everyone of their matches is an epic, long three setters,” he said.

“I think the score is tied with two wins apiece.”

He expects both girls to face off again at divisionals in the semifinal round.

Whitefish won the first meeting with Columbia Falls this spring, 4-3.

In boys play, it was all Whitefish as the Bulldogs cruised to a 7-0 verdict.

The closest battle on the court was at No. 3 singles where Whitefish’s Noah Fauth bested Chris Howell 7-5, 4-6, 6-0.

“We shuffled the lineup a bit and had a convincing win today against an improving Columbia Falls team,” Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said.

“We have a really busy couple of weeks coming up, and the guys know that they must continue to improve to get ready for the tournament season. This weekend should be a good test when both Corvallis and Hamilton come to town.”
