A man from California has been arrested after he allegedly threatened a fellow passenger with a knife on an inbound train to Whitefish Friday night.

Dale Dean Schroeder, 47, is being held at the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly got into an argument with a man on a train May 5, accusing him of taking his personal property.

According to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry, the incident escalated from a yelling match when Schroeder allegedly pressed a knife against the man’s back.

The man was not injured and Schroeder was taken into custody at the Whitefish depot after authorities determined he had a warrant for his arrest out of Butte as a non-compliant sexual or violent offender.

Curry said Schroeder is facing charges of violating probation and possession of drug paraphernalia, which authorities found on his person following his arrest. Curry said assault charges are expected, as well.
