An open house at 125 Corporate Court in Kalispell is planned to showcase the completed Flathead High School student-built home.

The public is invited to attend the open house scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. The two-story 1,981-square-foot home borders Spring Creek. The house features three bedrooms (master suite is on the first floor), two and a half baths, a family room, living room and laundry room. Finishing details include granite countertops, tile work, Dutch elm wood trim and craftsman-style finishes.

This is the second home Flathead House Construction classes have built under the guidance of Flathead industrial arts and construction teacher Brock Anderson, general contractor Denman Construction and other professional subcontractors from around the valley.

The house is listed for $309,000. A nonprofit called Kalispell Student-Built Homes has been established to hold proceeds from house sales in order to make the program self-sufficient. While a loan was needed to build this home, Anderson said he expects the program to be self-sufficient in roughly five years through house sales and donations.

The Flathead House Construction program is possible through partnerships with Western Building Center, Hammerquist Casalegno, Flathead Building Association, Glacier Bank and Flathead Electric Cooperative.
