Rugby state tournament opens at Glacier today

Flathead boys enter as top seed

The Montana Youth Rugby state championships kick off today at Glacier High School.

The high school boys open play at 5 p.m. with a plate play-in game between Spokane (Wash.) and Simms.

The high school cup quarterfinals are at 6 p.m. with games between Missoula and Bitterroot and Immaculate Conception Academy (Post Falls, Idaho) and North Idaho (Post Falls, Idaho). The second wave of first round games starts shortly afterwards with Frenchtown playing Helena and the top-seeded Flathead Black and Blue hosting Billings.

The high school girls and middle school brackets begin on Saturday morning with high school loser-out play.

The high school boys championship is scheduled to start at 4:55 p.m. with the girls at 3:15 p.m. and the middle school at 3:55.

The Black and Blue enters undefeated after winning both the high school and middle school tournaments last season.

The Missoula girls and All-American Julia Reikena enter as the top seed for the high school girls.
