GREAT FALLS — Another season, another divisional title for Glacier’s tennis programs.

The boys easily won their seventh straight AA championship on Friday while the girls had to battle to capture their sixth overall at the Northern Divisional.

The Glacier boys finished with a team score of 51 points with C.M. Russell a distant second, 31, and Great Falls High third, 16.

The Glacier girls emerged with a tight, and hard-fought 42-40 win over CMR. Great Falls High was third with 26.

Glacier’s Holland Blalack won the boys singles title, besting Miggy San Pedro of Great Falls High in the final 7-5, 6-0. Blalack defeated Leonard Ormseth in the semifinals 6-1, 6-4.

Blalack was the top seed for the divisional. San Pedro was No. 3.

In girls singles, fourth-seed McKenna Tinseth lost in the semifinals to second-seed Anna Johnson of Great Falls 6-3, 6-3. She battled back to finish fourth.

Glacier dominated girls doubles, finishing 1-2-4. Top-seed Maya Buckingham and Anna Cecil defeated teammates and No. 2 seed Tess Howe and McKenna Johnson in the title match 7-5, 6-3.

Fourth-seed Libby Hill and Meagan Gillespie finished fourth.

It was all Wolfpack in the boys doubles semifinals with Jack Desmul and Morgan Cordell besting Ben Desmul and Logan Hill 6-1, 6-2 while second-seed Tyler Keller and Kyle Buckingham topped Akhil Patel and Hunter Watterud 6-2, 7-6 (3). In the final, Keller and Buckingham beat Desmul and Cordell 6-3, 6-3.

Desmul and Hill, who upset the top-seeded doubles team on Thursday, finished fourth.

The boys and girls will both send three doubles teams and two individuals to the Class AA state tournament, which begins Thursday at the Flathead Valley Community College courts.

The top four individuals and doubles teams from all divisionals advance.

“It was kind of what we were gunning for,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said of sweeping titles once again.

“We had a couple of tight matches in the morning, especially in the girls doubles. That was a big semifinal win for Tessa and McKenna and we followed up with the clincher with Libby and Megan finishing fourth.”

Munro said Maggie Rudback and Graham Friedman were one win away from advancing to state. They both lost in the consolation semfinals.

Patel and Hunter Watterud also lost in the consolation semifinals.
