Jean Gray Moore, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at her residence.

Jean was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Moscow, Idaho, to Dr. John and June (Field) Gray.

Jean attended school in Moscow, Idaho. She met her husband Del while attending university. Del was going to school under the G.I. Bill following his military service in World War II. They married Nov. 26, 1947. Jean received the first “PHT” degree (Putting Husband Through) college. She was very appreciative of this award.

Jean enjoyed being a full-time mom to her daughter Nancy and son Nick. Jean was very active volunteering in many community activities, church and PTA.

The couple moved several times during their 69 years of marriage. In 1953 they homesteaded in the Columbia Basin, Washing-ton, raising sheep and pigs. June was a doting caretaker of her lambs, bottle feeding when necessary to give the little lambs a good start. Lind, Washington, was their next move as Del taught agriculture classes, Jean was most supportive, attending all the fairs, livestock shows and state conventions with him. With their move to Alaska the family enjoyed touring extensively, enjoying the beauty of the area and the magnificent wildlife. Later they relocated to Calgary while Del worked for the Immigration Department. Once again, Jean was most supportive and never complained about another move but always found something new to discover and enjoy. She cherished the friendships she made in all the areas of which they lived, remaining in close contact with them throughout her long life.

Upon Del’s retirement they relocated to Kalispell, enjoying the beauty of the area with many hiking and camping trips in Glacier National Park.

They enjoyed square dancing camping, and later purchasing an RV and touring with the Good Sams Club. Continuing in the travel mode they did 34 elderhostels and numerous “Mystery Tours” with the Heritage Club. Jean had an adaptable spirit for adventure, always finding joy in each new trek. She is remembered for her warm heart and sweet spirit.

Jean was preceded in death by her son Nick and his wife.

She is survived by her brothers, John in Denver and Dennis in Seattle; her beloved husband, Del; daughter, Nancy (Michael) Otness, of Somers; grandson, Trevor (Harmonie) Southard; great-grandson, Zane, of Gig Harbor Washington; also Nick’s sons, Matt and John Moore of San Diego.

No services are planned at this time. A private family memorial will take place later this summer.
