Siblerud, Todd hurl Lakers past Mariners
Solid pitching and plenty of hitting carried the Kalispell Lakers to a Class A American Legion baseball doubleheader sweep of the Mission Valley Mariners on Monday evening at Griffin Field.
Logan Siblerud threw a no-hitter in the second game, striking out five and walking four batters in a 10-0 outing shortened to five innings by the to-run rule.
“He walked the leadoff batter in four pitches,” Kalispell coach Jesse McFarland said of Siblerub. “He settled down pretty well (after that). When he’s around the zone, he’s really tough to hit.”
Tyler Kitch had two of Kalispell’s seven hits and drove in a run.
Evan Todd went the distance on the mound in the opener, a 6-0 victory.
“He was just as good,” McFarland said of Todd’s pitching effort.
“Defensively we were to solid all day, too, so that made a big difference.”
Leadoff hitter Brandon Jordan had three of Kalispell’s 12 hits in the opener. Kitch and Clayton Jaques, who tripled, had two hits each.
Cole Crosby drove in two runs.
Todd allowed four hits, all singles, struck out two and issued no walks.
Siblerud stole two bases.
Jacob Harrod also had two steals for Mission Valley.
Kalispell (4-3 overall, 2-0 conference) is back in action Friday and Saturday at its Canadian Days Tournament.
