Porch wins U.S. Open qualifier

MISSOULA — Kalispell’s Ryan Porch shot a 7-under-par 64 to win the U.S. Open local qualifier on Tuesday at Missoula Country Club.

Porch, who just finished his senior season at the University of Idaho, shot a 31 on the front nine and 33 on the back to win the tournament by four strokes, topping Canada’s Aaron Crawford. Both golfers advance to sectional qualifying on June 5 at Tacoma Country Club in Lakewood, Washington, for a chance to play in the U.S. Open on June 15-18 at Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin.

Libby’s Jim Mee shot a 1-under 70 to finish in a tie for fifth place. Polson’s Dakotah Jensen shot a 76.
