BUTTE — The Bigfork girls, driven by juniors Haile Norred and Bryn Morley, destroyed the field at the Class B state track meet, winning the first team state title for the Valkyries in 15 years.

Norred and Morley combined for 58 points in individual events, themselves topping the rest of the teams in the state.

On Saturday, Norred won the 200 and finished second in the 100, edged by two hundredths of a second. Morley won the 800 and 3,200 with ease, taking the 3,200 (11 minutes, 6.08 seconds) by more than a minute over teammate Anya Young (12:14.86) in second place.

The Bigfork girls also won the 4x400 relay and finished second in the 4x100 relay to build their team score to 109 points. The Vals scored 110 points two years ago but finished second to Plains, which scored a Class B record of 115.

Baker, powered almost exclusively by sophomore Wrenzi Wrzesinski, winner of the 100, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, finished second with 53 points. Defending champ Malta came in third.

Ronan was 15th with 11 points, Libby 16th with 10 and Eureka 26th with one point.

The Eureka boys got a boost from the shot put on the final day with two finishers in the top four, Owen Davis in third with a toss of 48-10 and Kaelan Yanak fourth at 48-6 3/4.

Bigfork’s Matt Farrier finished second in the 300 hurdles.
