Possible timber thieves reported in Whitefish
The Creston Fire Department responded to a structure fire shortly before 4 a.m. on Snowberry Trail.
Someone called the Whitefish Police Department because they were told an individual was cutting trees down behind their house. They were worried it was on their property, or perhaps on their neighbor’s who were away in Europe. Officers responded and found a slash pile near a new development, and stated they would follow up with the planning department Monday to see if it was sanctioned cutting.
A caller reported seeing a two-door Isuzu car with a spare tire on the outside back into a truck and then take off.
One call only had rustling in the background until a small child uttered the word “nobody” before the line went dead. Dispatch called the number back and it went through to voicemail. Officers responded and determined it was an accident. It was one of four accidental calls the department received on Saturday.
One caller reported losing her cell phone. She said that when she called it, it went straight to voicemail.
A representative of the Glacier Nordic Club needed to get a trailer out of the public works department garage where they had been storing it. An officer unlocked the garage for them, but when they were ready to leave, there was another vehicle in the compound. The driver was nowhere to be found.
