Area speech and debate teams competed in tournaments over the weekend in both Browning and Missoula.
In Browning, Whitefish took first place with 145 points and a contingent made of freshman from Columbia Falls took second place with 43 points. Glacier High School took first place in the AA division with 105 points.
In Missoula, the rest of the Columbia Falls team took first among class A schools with 155 points, followed by Stevensville with 41 points.
“We decided to split the team so that everyone could participate in a competition over the weekend,” said Columbia Falls head coach Tara Norick in a prepared statement. “We wanted to sample the competition from multiple schools as we build our program to the state tournament at the end of January in Corvallis. This was a great chance for many of the freshman members of our team to shine.”
