Polson boys, Whitefish girls net soccer victories

WHITEFISH — Robin Erickson scored four straight goals in the second half to rally Polson to a 6-3 Northern A boys soccer victory over Whitefish at Smith Fields on Thursday.

His first two scores were a minute apart and the final two were separated by two minutes in the late going.

Whitefish’s Noah Romagnuolo opened the scoring with his goal at 17 minutes.

Xander Burger, who assisted on that goal, scored at 34 minutes and Avery Hirsch, on a penalty kick, at 36 minutes to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 halftime lead.

Bridger Wenzel and Linde Lambson had the other goals for Polson. Wenzel also assisted on two.

Polson outshot Whitefish on goal 13-8.

WHITEFISH — Anna Cook, with Audrey Hyatt assisting, put Whitefish on the board early with a goal five minutes into play and Ali Hirsch added a goal at 33 minutes as the Bulldogs stopped Polson in a Northern A contest.

Whitefish had 16 shots on goal to Polson’s 7.

Whitefish keeper Sami Galbraith made some great saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. She had six saves on the day.

Whitefish swept Polson on the season, winning the first matchup 4-3. Whitefish led 3-0 at the half in that one.

Julia Pittaway had the final two goals as Stillwater Christian blanked Mission Valley.

Alma Patrick and Mabelle Hartman had the first two scores for Stillwater.

“This was our first small-sided game of the season playing nine a side,” Stillwater Coach coach JR Hemp said.

“The young ladies were disciplined from the start, working on passing and maintaining possession. We had to move several players into different roles because of the injuries last week to key players. We had good leadership on the field by seniors Chloe Mathwig and Lulu Neumann.”
