| October 7, 2017 7:44 PM

TSgt. Frederick “Baumann” Busch, 79, passed gently during the night of Sept. 8, 2017, in Kalispell.

A retired Air Force veteran, TSgt. Busch served with the 80th Tactical Fighting Squadron, known as the Headhunters and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.

TSgt. Busch was born on June 10, 1938, in Boston to Dale and Ellen Baumann of North Fairfield, Ohio, where he spent the majority of his youth.

Enlisting in the Air Force in 1955, he traveled and served worldwide with successful tours of duty and stations in Japan, Okinawa, Vietnam and stateside. He received an honorable discharge with honors in 1975.

Known as a restless and adventurous spirit, Frederick retired from the Air Force to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a second career as a long haul truck driver based out of Spokane and eventually working out of Columbia Falls. Following retirement from the road, he settled in Columbia Falls for a while before eventually moving to his final home of 15 years in Marion.

He enjoyed the various outdoor activities Montana has to offer, as well as the wide open spaces, privacy and solitude, maintaining a small circle of friends that shared his interests and sentiments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister and younger brother, and is survived by his sister Mary Ellen, sons Eric and Fred and daughter Natheena, in addition to a handful of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Following his passing and military burial with honors, Frederick “Baumann” Busch is now resting peacefully at the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at the ICU and intermediate care at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center and at the Brendan House, for their kindness and compassionate care both to the patient, and to the family. We would also like to thank the United Veterans of the Flathead for their support role during the service, complete with “Taps.” Finally, a warm thank you to Adam Mills at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home for his expeditious and professional handling of the various details of the service.
