Gayle Martin Smith, 99, passed away on Sept. 29, 2017, at her home in Hungry Horse. Gayle was born to Adolph and Beatrice (Johnson) Martin on Aug. 15, 1918, in Martin Homestead, now known as Martin City.

Gayle was the third of four daughters. She attended and graduated from Kalispell High School. Gayle cooked for the railroad, log camps and for the U.S. Forest Service in Spotted Bear. When she wasn’t spending her time cooking she loved gardening and animals.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, her husband, Merle Walter Smith in 1970 and her oldest son, Dallas Merle Smith in 2011.

Gayle is survived by her longtime partner Guy Gene Brash, her son Clark Walter “Smithy” Smith of Corman, nieces and nephews, six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
