Lester Harlan Day, 87
Lester Harlan Day, 87, passed away peacefully on Oct. 6, 2017, in Meridian, Idaho, surrounded by friends and family.
Les was born in Peoria, Illinois, on Sept. 23, 1930, to Harlan G. and Elizabeth G. Day.
He married the love of his life, Betty Garland, on June 5, 1959.
He wass preceded in death by his wife Betty, brother Jim Day, and sister Doris Howland.
He is survived by three sisters, Vivian Worsfold, Marie Johnson and Estaleen Nelson; three children, Charla Rettinger, Darla Voigt and Rod Day; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
After graduating from high school Les moved to Montana where he proudly joined the United States Navy. He served in the Korean War from 1949 to 1953.
After leaving the Navy he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad where he enjoyed a long career.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing on Whitefish Lake, playing cards, and watching “The Price is Right” and calling Don Worsfold every day to compare bids on the show.
He moved to Meridian in 2016.
Viewing is from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at Austin Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish. Burial will follow services at Whitefish Cemetery.
