School calendar

- Kids of all ages are invited to enter their favorite dishes in the Bigfork Chamber of Commerce’s Tamarack Time Festival. Enter dishes at the kid’s table in front of Showthyme between 11 a.m. and noon on Oct. 14. Judging will begin at noon and public tasting will begin at 1 p.m. Event tasting badges may be purchased for $5 in front of the Bigfork Art and Culture Center. - A “treecycle” ride will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 15. Participants should meet at the Kalispell Public Schools Transportation Department parking lot, 514 E. Washington St. People who are unable to ride may follow the tour by car to learn about notable trees around Kalispell.

- A Child Find screening from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 16 at East Evergreen Elementary, 585 E. Evergreen Drive. Children ages 0-5 will be screened in hearing, vision, motor skills, thinking skills, speech and language. This screening is for children who live in the following school districts: Cayuse Prairie, Creston, Deer Park, Evergreen, Fair-Mont-Egan, Fortine, Helena Flats, Kila, Marion, Olney-Bissell, Smith Valley, Somers-Lakeside, Swan Lake, Swan River, Trego, West Glacier and West Valley. - Flathead High School students are invited to join art teachers and the Art Club in a downtown gallery walk on Oct. 16. A group will meet in room 130 after school to walk downtown. Participants will return to the high school at 4:15 p.m.

- Bigfork Middle School band will perform a fall concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

- Fair-Mont-Egan School pictures will be taken Oct. 16.

- Kalispell Montessori School students will be making apple cider beginning on Oct. 18. The school will host Woodland Montessori kindergarteners at 11 a.m. Visitors are invited to watch apples be pressed and taste the cider.

- A teen social for grades sixth through 12th is planned from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at ImagineIF Kalispell. The featured craft will be creating masks using 3-D pens and glue guns. Food will be provided.

- There is no school Oct. 19-20 as most teachers will be attending the MEA-MFT Educator’s Conference.

- Marina Cay and Bigfork ACES after-school program are hosting a pumpkin carving party from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 21. Space is limited to 40 people. Cost is $10 per person. Participants will be provided with pumpkins, carving kits, stencils and food. Proceeds benefit Bigfork ACES. Reserve a space by calling Marina Cay at 406-837-5861.

- Volunteers are needed to help out with the Fair-Mont-Egan book fair set for Oct. 24-26.

- There is no school for Fair-Mont-Egan students on Oct. 25 for parent/teacher conferences.

- Oct. 25 will be a full day for students in Kalispell Public Schools as part of the district’s plans to make up days missed due to closures as a result of cyber threats.

- Kila School’s annual carnival will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26.

- A haunted house will be set up in the basement at Lake View Healthcare Community, 1050 Grand Drive, Bigfork from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 27-28. Donations will be accepted and proceeds benefit the Bigfork School District’s non-funded sports and the community Bigfork Food Bank.

- Oct. 27 is the deadline for Columbia Falls High School seniors to submit portraits for the yearbook.

- The Bigfork Rotary Foundation will host the “Halloween Hunger No More,” soup supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 in Bigfork Middle School cafeteria. Cost is $5 per person and includes soup, bread, dessert and drink. Children age 5 and under are free. Proceeds benefit weekend backpack food and clothing programs for students.

- Visit ImagineIF Bigfork for some fun Halloween activities and trick-or-treating from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 31.

- Flathead Valley Community College Veterans Association will host a free Trunk-or-Treat event for children from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the west-facing parking lot at the campus. People are also needed to decorate their vehicle trunks and hand out treats during the event. The association will provide treats and there is no cost to participate. - Whitefish High School picture retakes will be held Nov. 3.

- The crosstown guitar show will be held Nov. 7 at Flathead High School auditorium. Flathead and Glacier high school students who play guitar, ukulele or other string instruments, are invited to participate. For more information contact guitar instructor Steve Eckels at eckelss@sd5.k12.mt.us.

- Parent-teacher conferences in Columbia Falls School District will be held Nov. 7 and Nov. 9.

- Students in Kalispell Public Schools return from winter break Jan. 2 in order to make up days as a result of school closures due to cyber threats.

- Kalispell Parks and Recreation will hold an after-school program for kindergarten through fifth grade when school is in session. The program will be from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. weekdays in Elrod Elementary gym. Cost is $8 for residents and $10 for non-residents. For more information call 758-7975.
