Flathead splits with Sentinel in soccer finale

MISSOULA — Flathead wrapped up Class AA boys soccer regular-season action on Saturday by thumping Missoula Sentinel 4-1 in a Western AA match.

Jalen Hawes, Makena Tanko, Eric Gardner and A.J. Apple scored for Flathead, which led 2-0 at the half.

Flathead outshot Sentinel on goal 8-3 and led in corner kicks 3-2.

Up next for Flathead is a Western AA playoff game later this week.

MISSOULA — Shayenne Thompson accounted for Flathead’s scoring in a Western AA loss to Sentinel.

It was the regular-season finale for both teams.

Sentinel led 13-7 in shots on goal and 4-1 in corner kicks.

Ashley McElmurry had two goals for Sentinel, both in the second half.

Sentinel held a 2-0 lead at the half.

Flathead plays at Missoula Hellgate on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in a play-in game. That winner will face Glacier in a Western AA playoff game on Saturday for a trip to the state tournament.
