Alleged bear activity prompts citations

A caller reported two allegedly unsecured trashcans had been rifled through by a bear. Citations were mailed to both residents, according to Whitefish Police Department dispatch logs.

Two males were reportedly trying to start fights outside of a local bar. One male allegedly tried to punch the bar’s assistant manager. The caller requested law enforcement move them far away from the property.

The driver of a silver SUV allegedly hit a crosswalk sign on Baker Avenue. The reporting party said the driver left the scene so he followed them home and gave law enforcement their address. The crosswalk sign pole was knocked over and the front end of the vehicle was reportedly damaged. Law enforcement responded to the scene and arrested the male driver.

The Smith Valley Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in Kila on Swamp View Lane at approximately 3:56 a.m.
