Wilbur Doyle Combs, 92

Wilbur Doyle Combs died from congestive heart failure on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, in Redmond, Oregon, with family by his side. He was 92.

He was born in Lancaster, Washington, on Jan. 17, 1925, to Thomas and Lovell Combs, one of 11 children. He milked cows on the family farm before school, and helped his father make sorghum and brooms during the Depression. He graduated from high school in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1943 and married his high school sweetheart, Trudy Lee Swanson, on April 23, 1944.

He was a timber faller in Oregon and Alaska and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Lebanon, Oregon.

He enjoyed fishing, swimming, golf, bowling, pinochle and travel.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings, Wilda, Ella, Thelma, Emily, Johnny and Leo; and survived by four, Lavelle, Jerry, David, and Alice; and Trudy, his wife of 73 years; three children, Shirley and husband Danny, Larry and wife Cindy, and Charlotte and husband Richard; nine grandchildren, Eric, Stacey, Heather, Aaron, Briana, Rachel, Ashley, Brice and Lesliegh; and nine great-grandchildren, Shannyn, Ryker, Jaxson, Tristan, Tucker, Kolbie, Austin, Logan and Mateo.

Doyle was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1951 and an elder in the Canyon View Congregation in Redmond. He was a very wise and loving man, always ready to listen and give kind counsel from the Bible to those who asked. He had complete faith in the resurrection and we hope to see him again soon on a paradise earth. Jehovah’s people never say goodbye for the last time.

A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 851 NW Canal Blvd., Redmond, Oregon.
