Rocky tops No. 11 Tech on late field goal

BUTTE — Rocky Mountain kicker Griff Amies hit a 45-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Bears over No. 11 Montana Tech in a Frontier Conference football game on Saturday at Alumni Coliseum.

Rocky kept pace with the Diggers the entire game, taking a 20-13 lead in the second half after back-to-back touchdown drives.

Tech answered twice late in the fourth quarter, with Jed Fike scoring on a 14-yard touchdown run to tie the game. After another Rocky score, Quinn McQueary found Dion Williams for an 11-yard touchdown with 1:28 to play.

That was too much time. Drew Korf threw four straight passes to get the Bears to the Tech 32, and a short run set up Amies’ winning field goal.

Rocky sophomore Joe Gallatin (Polson) had one rush for a yard.

Reid Siderius (Glacier) had six tackles and a pass breakup for Tech and Tucker Rauthe (Glacier) and Cam Nissen (Bigfork) each had one tackle.

No. 7 Southern Oregon 44, Montana Western 19

ASHLAND, Ore. — Southern Oregon scored 21 unanswered points before halftime to run away with a convincing win against Montana Western.

Tanner Trosin completed touchdown passes on three of four possessions in the second quarter to give the Raiders a 28-6 halftime lead and they held on in the second half for the win.

George Sherwood (Flathead) had four catches for 29 yards for Western and had four punts, including a long of 52 yards.

Carroll 59, MSU-Northern 7

HAVRE — Carroll pulled out to a 49-0 lead in a rout at MSU-Northern.

Reese Hiibel and Ryan Arntson both finished with more than 130 yards rushing and the Saints defense held Northern to only 97 yards for the game.

Dylan Torgerson (Flathead) made a 32-yard field goal for the Saints in the win and punted one time for 44 yards. Brian FauntLeRoy (Whitefish) had two tackles for Carroll.

Joe Fehr (Eureka) had a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery for Northern.

College of Idaho 38,

Eastern Oregon 20

La GRANDE, Ore. — College of Idaho ran for 336 yards in a win over Eastern Oregon.

The Yotes had rushing touchdowns of 58 and 78 yards in the second half to build a 38-13 lead and hold off the Mountaineers.

No. 15 Dickinson St. 28, Dakota St. 25

MADISON, S.D. — Cain Boschee (Glacier) had a team-high 11 tackles and No. 15 Dickinson State clinched its third straight North Star Athletic Association conference title.

Boschee has five interceptions this season, tied for the fourth-most in the country.
