Emma Gruber paced Libby in aces and digs as Libby downed Columbia Falls 25-18, 25-17, 25-12 on Tuesday night in a Class A volleyball conference matchup.

“It feels pretty good,” Libby head coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said. “I’m proud of those girls. It always nice to win. They really play as a team out on the floor.”

The Loggers’ comraderie paid off against the Wildkats, as they tallied 38 assists to Columbia Falls’ seven.

Alli Collins accounted for 33 of Libby’s assists.

Gruber recorded 18 digs and two of Libby’s six aces.

Jayden Winslow added 15 digs, while Jessika Jones and Brooklyn Rainer each had 11 kills to lead the Loggers.

Libby moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play on the young season.

Even given her team’s early success, Ostrem-Johnston is not worried about complacency setting in amongst the girls as they continue their conference slate.

“The girls will continue to work hard, because they know other teams are working hard, too,” she said.

Soccer

Libby at Whitefish

Both the girls and boys soccer matchups scheduled for Tuesday afternoon between Libby and Whitefish were cancelled due to air quality concerns in the Flathead Valley.

Smoke from wildfires around the state blanketed the area throughout the day, and the air quality was deemed “very unhealthy” by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

It is unknown whether the teams will make up the matchups at a later date and time.
