BILLINGS — Considering what Whitefish had to deal with this week, the Bulldogs still managed to forge a 1-all tie with Billings Central on Friday in boys Class A soccer action.

The game, originally scheduled for Whitefish, was moved to Billings because the air quality in the valley from area wildfires has been ruled unhealthy for much of the week.

“Everybody was pretty rusty, especially the first half,” Whitefish coach John Lacey said.

“We haven’t been outside. It took us a first half to start playing. Once we got the rust out, the second half was much improved.”

Both teams scored in the first half.

“I feel good about getting the game in,” Lacey said. “I give a lot of credit to the administrators for getting our guys to play. It was hard stretch on everybody.”

Ian Lacey, off an assist by Casey Schneider, scored for Whitefish at 31 minutes.

“When we settled down and got back into a rhythm in the second half, it was a lot better,” Lacey said.
