Evacuation warning issued for Apgar, West Glacier
An evacuation warning is in effect in Glacier Park’s Apgar area and parts of West Glacier in anticipation of gusty winds that could stoke the Sprague Fire.
The warning was issued by Glacier National Park and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday at noon.
“There’s a significant weather change that is going to occur, and as it moves in it’s going to bring gusty northeast winds,” said Sue Exline, an information officer on the Sprague Fire.
Sheriff deputies and park rangers began going door to door issuing notices at noon on Wednesday in the event of an evacuation.
Residents and visitors are being asked to prepare to evacuate the Apgar campground and Apgar Village, and parts of West Glacier including West Glacier village, the Highline Boulevard neighborhood, Golf Course neighborhood, Wild River Drive / Grouse Ridge Road neighborhood, and west toward the Sloan Lane neighborhood.
The northeast winds of about 15 to 20 mph are projected to roll in about 6 p.m. on Wednesday ahead of a possible rainstorm.
“There’s not a large amount of rain being projected at this time,” Exline said.
